I am a Uk citizen marrying a US citizen, how do I change the name in my passport in the US after we’re married?
I am a UK citizen and my boyfriend is a US citizen and we plan to marry next year in the US and live in the US, we have all the forms and have set the date, I just can’t find information about where and how to change my surname in my passport after we are married.
Also if anyone who has been through this could offer me any advice, it would be very much appreciated!
You will need to have your existing passport amended to reflect the change in your name. If you don’t do this some countries may refuse you entry because they will argue that you cannot be identified by your maiden name. You can download the relevant form from the UK Passport Service website. I will post the link below.
I am British and my wife is American. We live in the States. The best advice anyone can give you is to be patient. The US Immigration process is challenging and at times highly confusing. Read everything three or four times because information can be hidden in the body of the text especially where submitting types of evidence is concerned. I also suggest that you apply for the Fiance Visa as soon as possible. You cannot marry and then remain in the States without it. Another tip is for your boyfriend to contact his Congresspersons office. They usually have a staff member on hand who assists with immigration issues and they can make direct enquiries with the USCIS regarding your case, something an Immigration attorney who will cost you a fortune cannot do.
